Princess 77 Couch Seed
Princess 77 is the first fine textured hybrid Couchgrass (otherwise known as Bermudagrass) to be available in seeded form!
Used on golf courses all across Australia, Princess 77 is the king of all Bermuda grasses. Its popularity is due to its thicker density and turf like appearance, while still being a far cheaper option than turf.
It has the ability to be mowed very short, offering superior ball control for golf courses, cricket wickets and bowing greens. Princess 77 is popular for residential use for those who desire a premium lawn.
Princess 77 is a warm season grass and will need a full day of sunlight to flourish, which is typically 8 hours. Princess 77 has a short dormancy period in the winter months and may discolor, particularly in sub-tropical climates.
Note: Princess 77 Couch can be oversown with Pencross Bentgrass or Poa Trivialis to improve winter performance and provide a lawn that is pristine all year round. This also works to protect the Couch from heavy traffic during dormancy.
Seeding rates:
New Lawns: 10 grams per square meter. (1kg/100m2)
Overseeding of existing lawn: 5 grams per square meter. (1kg/200m2)

Description
Princess 77 is the most similar Couchgrass seed to the turf-type Santa Ana Couch. It thrives in soil with a pH of 5.5-8. It is highly tolerant to saline and/or poor quality irrigation water.
Sowing Tips: For best results, sow in full sun in well-drained soils. Soil must remain damp throughout the germination period and must be maintained for at least 1-2 weeks after sowing, through irrigation or natural rainfall.
Optimal Planting Time: Spring to late Summer (if access to watering) and should be sown when soil temperatures are at a minimum of 18 degrees.
Germination: From 7 days to 28 days (climate and season dependent). Expect full coverage within 10-12 weeks.
Water: Keep moist until grass is 3 inches/7cm tall, water consumption after this time should be significantly reduced once the roots are well established.
Fertilising: Requires generous Nitrogen applications until fully covered. Fertiliser application recommended approximately 6 weeks after sowing during active growth phase.
First Mowing: When grass is 3 inches/7cm tall, which occurs approximately 6 weeks after germination in the right climate. Princess 77 tolerates mowing heights 2mm to 32mm.
Mowing Frequency: Approximately 2 times/week during active growth and remove no more than 1/3 of the leaf per mowing. Mows beautifully with a cylinder mower or rotary. It can be mowed very low for golf, bowls or croquet.
Mowing Tips:
- Only remove 1/3 of the leaf area at any one time.
- The lower you mow it, the more often you need to mow
- In shady areas increase the mowing height of the grass
- Mowing is the best form of weed control
Disadvantages of Princess 77 Couch:
- Does not tolerate shade well.
- As it is a warm climate grass it can lose its colour and become dormant over winter.
