Poa Trivialis
Poa trivialis (Rough Bluegrass) is a perennial grass that forms dense, light green patches, thriving in moist, fertile soils. Known for its strong seedling vigour and low vertical growth, it’s a popular choice for golf greens and tees due to its excellent shade tolerance and ability to handle boggy areas. Ideal for transitional oversowing of warm-season grasses like Couch and Kikuyu, Poa trivialis ensures a smooth transition back to companion grasses as temperatures rise.

Detailed Description
Poa trivialis, known for its excellent cold and frost tolerance, maintains its color during winter with a very fine leaf texture and light green hue. It performs exceptionally well in heavily shaded and damp areas, making it ideal for golf greens, tees, and transitional oversowing.
Sowing Tips
The small size of the seeds allows for easy oversowing, similar to the process used for Ryegrasses. Ensure soil is well-prepared to facilitate optimal germination and growth.
Optimal Planting Time
Autumn is the ideal time for planting Poa trivialis.
Germination
Germination occurs approximately 14 days after sowing, depending on climate conditions, and can germinate at low temperatures.
Water
Ensure the soil remains damp throughout the germination period. Once established, water approximately once per week.
Fertilising
McKays Slow Release Lawn Fertiliser can be used to prepare the soil for sowing Poa trivialis, enhancing growth and turf health.
First Mowing
Mow approximately 18-21 days after sowing.
Mowing Frequency
Poa trivialis tolerates an extremely low height, approximately a minimum of 0.5 cm. Mow to achieve desired effects, such as ball speed and roll for golf courses.
Disadvantages of Poa Trivialis
- Not heat tolerant.
- Although it is a perennial grass, it may not completely die off in climates without high summer temperatures, potentially becoming invasive in these settings.
Seed & Package Details
