Elite Backyard Blend
Our Elite Backyard Blend is primarily a cool climate variety best suited to temperate regions around Australia. It contains both summer and winter active seed types, making it perfect for the diverse warm and cold conditions in these regions. Additional watering is required on days of higher than average temperatures.
The blend is ideal for shady conditions and holds up well in frosts. With Sports Turf Ryegrass and Creeping Red Fescue, this grass can withstand a reasonable level of traffic.
This seed mix includes high-quality Ryegrasses and Fescues: Sports Turf Ryegrass, Turf Tall Fescue, and Creeping Red Fescue, providing a soft, green lawn that looks amazing year-round.

Detailed Description
The Elite Backyard Blend is a combination of 35% Sports Turf Ryegrass, 35% Turf Tall Fescue, 20% Creeping Red Fescue and 10% McKays Slow Release Fertiliser. Please click the links to each individual seed for specific details and further information.
Sowing Tips
Sow into soft top soil or sandy loam. Broadcast the seed at, or very near, the soil surface and incorporate lightly with raking. To ensure best coverage and avoid seed wastage, we recommend using an appropriate seed spreader for the size of your area. Soil must remain damp throughout the germination period and must be maintained for at least 1-2 weeks after sowing through irrigation or natural rainfall. Adequate water supplies need to be maintained until the grass is fully established.
Optimal Planting Time
Autumn and Early Spring are the best times to sow this seed.

Germination
14-21 days, climate and condition dependent.
Water
Keep moist throughout the entire germination period until the roots are well established. Requires additional watering during Summer and unseasonally high temperatures to ensure the roots do not die off.
Fertilizing
McKays Slow Release Fertiliser is included in this blend. Additional application is recommended approximately 6 weeks after sowing during the active growth phase.
First Mowing
When grass is between 5-7cm tall. This should indicate that the roots are strong enough to withstand the mowing process.
Mowing Frequency
Mowing requirements will increase during the active growth phase. This may mean mowing is required 1-2 times/week depending on the desired height of the grass.
Disadvantages of Elite Backyard Blend
- Requires more water than warm climate grasses in summer and unseasonally hot days.
- May need occasional overseeding to maintain a thick and luscious lawn.

We’re pretty impressed with the results using the elite backyard blend, we have a lovely grassy backyard in only 6 weeks. Still a little patchy so we just oversowed more seed to hopefully fill it in, but compared to the cost of turfing this is a great result.
Great advice from staff. We are in a problem area and south facing so traditional warm season grasses do not grow. This germinated in 7 days and 3 weeks we have a lovely lush lawn. I hope it stays this way!

We planted this grass a year ago and it’s growing beautifully in our Canberra climate. I recommend it to everyone who wants to grow grass from seed. It copes well with the frost, part sun, shade and full sun. Needs a lot of water in the height of summer but still held up well with my neglectful watering. We do a bi annual spray for weeds and some grass conditioning and it looks fantastic!
Takes 7-10 days to shoot and then it’s a bit patchy to start with. Re seeding and building it up over a year and I’m super happy with the final results. Will continue to buy and recommend to anyone who is in our area.
I seeded around our shed area last September with elite backyard blend in a very shady area (sun about 3hrs a day).I overseeded the areas that I missed the first time .it has grown really well.i would thoroughly recommend this product.

Super fast delivery and germinated even faster. Seeded backyard on Sunday and there were sprouts on Thursday. Five days is outstanding, although Adelaide Hills summer is perfect especially with constant monitoring and watering throughout the day. Definitely recommend this product.
